Foreign travel

Puerto Penasco picThis 1,200-word story ran in the July 2008 edition of PHOENIX magazine. It featured the latest resort development and cultural nuances of Puerto PeƱasco, a former fishing enclave-turned-beach destination on the Sea of Cortez in Sonora, Mexico.

My goal was to show both sides of the tourism experience, giving equal weight to the posh amenities and the quaint local pastimes that gave the town its character. This photo, which shows entrepreneur Ramiro Ramos Gonzalez preparing excellent roadside seafood for Mariscos El Doctor (“the shrimp doctor”), ran with the feature.
